Alexander Graham Bell
Alexander Graham Bell is the man we created with inventing the first working telephone. Born in 1847 in Edinburgh, Scotland, Bell's family were no strangers to the world of communication. Alexander Graham Bell's father and other family members worked on speaking pronunciation, grammar and style, in addition to different forms of communication with Bell's deaf mother. While Bell is known primarily for his invention of the telephone, Bell experimented with many different inventions and sciences. Taking a liking to nature, Bell worked closely with botanical sciences and art. In 1870, after family death's due to illness, Bell, in his own frail state, moved to Ontario Canada to study the human voice and continue his work with the deaf. Bell traveled to Boston to visit the Boston School for Deaf Mutes. It was here in Boston that Bell decided to open up a school called the Vocal Physiology and Mechanics of Speech. One of Bell's most famous students was Helen Keller. It was here in Boston that Bell started working on his "harmonic telegraph" - a message that could be sent through a wire with different pitches. In 1875, Bell collaborated with Thomas A. Watson to collaborate on the acoustic telegraphy. It was on June 2nd, 1875 that Watson and Bell transmitted voice sounds through a telephone. The speech was not clear or distinct, but the sound was successfully transmitted through the telephone. This was the introduction of Alexander Graham Bell's telephone. The telephone has changed the way we communicate today. From cell phones to call center services, telecommunications would not be the same without the spectacular contributions from Alexander Graham Bell.
