Dialer
The Dialer is the primary mechanism of the modern outbound telemarketer. A dialer dials numbers automatically until someone picks up the phone and speaks. When a caller picks up the phone, the dialer then hooks them up with the next available agent. There is usually a gap in time between the connection to the person being called and the agent being connected, thus the silent moment when you pick up a telemarketing call or the ?please hold for this important message? announcement. The dialer also hangs up on automatic answering devices and phone company announcements.
