Beginning in March, AnswerConnect partners with Trees For Life<\/a> to continue making a lasting positive impact on The Scottish Highlands. The Highlands are known for their beautiful scenery and have long been an attractive destination for visitors to Scotland. However, due to deforestation and climate change<\/a>, much of the natural wildlife that is needed to keep the forest abundant has vanished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what are Trees For Life and AnswerConnect are doing to help the Scottish Highlands? Read more below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where are the Scottish Highlands?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Scottish Highlands are located in Northwest Scotland and encompass the globally unique Caledonian Forest. According to Trees for Life\u2019s Richard Bunting<\/a>, the area is \u201cScotland\u2019s equivalent of a rainforest, it\u2019s also one of the UK\u2019s most endangered habitats\u2026 the forest has been slowly dying, and today only a tiny percentage of the former forest survives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trees for Life works within The Scottish Highlands to restore the wild forest and encourage the return of the wildlife that once lived within it. They work with landowners, communities, and partners so everyone can benefit from a thriving, healthy, rewilded landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How are the Highlands being rewilded?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trees for Life recognizes that the Caledonian Forest is more than trees; it\u2019s an intricate web of life. That means it should be home to the full range of wildlife that originally grew there. This includes large predators such as wolves and lynxes, forest grazers such as wild cattle, and special plants such as twinflower. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trees for Life has helped reintroduce the red squirrel to forests in the North West Highlands after 50 years without them. The charity has also sought to bring beavers back; reintroducing them to their natural home among the rivers and lochs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People helping our planet<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trees for Life works with thousands of volunteers each year, helping plant trees in remote areas of the mountains to grow new forests. By offering corporate team-building activities as well as opportunities for individual volunteers, Trees For Life allows everyone to get involved. These activities can also improve individual wellbeing; being among nature and playing a crucial role in helping improve the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
